Polaroid Day: Black Edition
A few weeks ago, Amanda mentioned that she had been included in a book called Polaroid Day: Black Edition.
Not wanting my Polaroid book collection to be incomplete, I ordered a copy. To say that I’m impressed would be an understatement.
Through my experience with 28mm.org, the number of expositions I’ve done over the years, and the book the photo collective I belong to recently published, I understand the fine art of photo editing. I don’t mean what you do in Photoshop, but the selection and placement of photos in a series. It’s a skill every serious photographer should posses.
The publishers of Polaroid Day have done a phenomenal job in editing. Each spread fits together in either colour, theme/concept, style and/or composition. Occasionally a Polaroid image will be displayed on the right side of the page, with no accompanying image on the left. A simple effect — a kind of pause — that works well with the general flow of the book. Another thing I like is that each image is presented without the white frame. I presented my Polaroids like that back on bg.com and I’ve been thinking of going back to that way of presentation. The frame can be distracting sometimes.

Everything I love about Polaroid images — emotion, colour, style — you’ll find in Polaroid Day. The last book that touched me in this way, is a copy of A Year of Mornings that Lorissa gave me. That book now lives permanently on my nightstand. I think Polaroid Day will find its way there as well.
If you’re a Polaroid fan, you want this book. If you love photography, you want this book. And for $16.00 (plus shipping) a real bargain. I was so impressed, I ended up ordering the “Brown Edition” this morning. Looking forward to it arriving.
