I kind of fell out of love with personal web publishing for a while. I lost interest. It had become too much work. I felt censored. And as a result? Photo safaris in Amsterdam and places beyond became non-existent. Paid photo and design work became the priority.
Now I realize that without a personal creative outlet to express myself, uncensored and on my terms, my professional work suffers. Sometimes I just don't want to care that my site isn't viewable in Internet Explorer or that the highlights in the sky are completely blown out. Sometimes a photo is just a photo and that's okay.
So after mulling it over, I decided that I'm going to put the word "personal" back in front of "website". I know, that sounds extremely cheesy, but it is what I mean. Self-indulgence. It's going to be about me again.
However, unlike many websites anno 2010, I'm afraid that you won't be able to participate. At least not yet anyway. For now, you'll have to be content with being a quiet observer. Should you feel compelled to say something (and to be honest, I hope you do!), use the form to your right. Like most people I love e-mail of the personal nature. And unlike most, I do respond in a timely manner. It'll be like leaving a comment, but for my eyes only.
You'll have to agree, it's more intimate and personal that way.

About Rachel James
Born in Florida, I grew up in Seattle and Washington DC. I was an English Lit / Education double major at the University fo Maryland. These days I make a living as a wedding-portrait photographer / user experience designer in the Netherlands. How I got here is a rather romantic story. My own personal happily ever after. Ask me about it some time.
Together with my husband Marcel, we run a small web studio. Our strength lies in creating complex user interfaces. We created a content mangement system used by de Volkskrant, Nederlands Openluchtmuseum and Expresso Fashion. I have also created websites and done photo work for VT Wonen, Partij van de Arbeid / Wouter Bos, Artsen zonder Grenzen, Eyeworks Productions, Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment, and Warchild just to name a few.
Two of my most successful personal websites, still available online, are brownglasses.com and 28mm. In 2006, I made a feeble attempt at photoblogging at a site called Aan de dijk. The archive is broken up into two parts: pre-Wordpress and Wordpress powered.
